A very affective kerfing jig (pics)

Hi Folks,

Inspired by Frank Ford of Frets.com and assisted by a comprehensive pictorial guide that was so generously put together and emailed to me back in January by Daniel Huskey, I have (finally) made myself a kerfing jig (or K-Sled as Daniel so aptly named it) for use on the bandsaw





I must say that I am really very happy with this easy to make and affective jig. With it one can cut any type of kerfing as fast as they can move the jig back and forth in the mitre slot of their saws table (or auxiliary table if your saw does not have a slot). Also, it is completely adjustable for both kerf spacing and depth.

Here is some images of the reverse kerfing that I cut with this jig from some Tasmanian Oak





Frank Ford has a page at Frets.com dedicated to this jig and at the bottom of THAT PAGE is a small down-loadable video demo of the jig in action.

I understand that most of you will not have time to futz about making kerfings strips, but if like myself, you are faced with shipping cost etc when you buy this stuff, I encourage you to consider this jig.

Here is a comparison between commercially available reverse kerfing in mahogany, and the stuff I made with the jig from Tassi Oak, you be the judge.

I have always used my sliding miter saw to cut my slots(full size board). Then I take the board to my band saw to cut the board to size. That looks like a nifty way to use just the bandsaw. Of course the last batch I am going to use came from RC Tonewoods(I got a little lazy). I might give this a go next time.

Well folks,

Glad you all found some interest, huge response. I just now woke up to get ready for the day job and found that I have a couple of dozen PMs waiting for me

Mike,

That is a great idea, however I will stick with the mailing list for now and send a copy to Brock. If he thinks that the format is suitable, I have no probs with any of my input being posted in the jig section and whilst I cannot speak directly for them, I am quite sure that Daniel and Frank would feels the same.
